2.6.1 GENERAL<br />

STATION SMOKE CONTROL AND<br />

MECHANICAL VENTILATION SYSTEMS<br />

2.6.1.1 Fans <strong>for</strong>m<strong>in</strong>g part of a fire rated duct shall also be enclosed <strong>in</strong><br />

the same fire rated enclosure.<br />

2.6.1.2 Ductwork not serv<strong>in</strong>g smoke control fan rooms shall not pass<br />

through the smoke control fan rooms.<br />

2.6.1.3 PVC pipes are prohibited <strong>in</strong> underground stations, except PVC<br />

pipe sleeves and condensate dra<strong>in</strong> pipes <strong>for</strong> air-condition<strong>in</strong>g<br />

units as stipulated <strong>in</strong> Cl.2.3.15.11 of this <strong>Standard</strong>.<br />

2.6.1.4 Fresh/exhaust air of the station’s smoke control and<br />

mechanical ventilation systems can be taken from/discharge to<br />

the <strong>in</strong>take/exhaust air shafts (shown shaded <strong>in</strong> Diagrams<br />

2.6.1.4(a) and 2.6.1.4(b)) respectively of the underground<br />

station.<br />

2.6.1.5 The <strong>in</strong>take and exhaust air shafts shall be positioned or<br />

protected to prevent re-circulation of smoke <strong>in</strong>to the system<br />

through air <strong>in</strong>take open<strong>in</strong>gs, station entrances and other surface<br />

open<strong>in</strong>gs. Adjacent structures and property uses also shall be<br />

considered.<br />

2.6.1.6 Primary and secondary power supply shall comply with<br />

Cl.4.1.3 of this <strong>Standard</strong>.<br />

2.6.1.7 Where replacement air is taken from doorways at station<br />

entrances, devices or other measures shall be <strong>in</strong>corporated to<br />

admit replacement air upon activation of the emergency<br />

ventilation system to achieve the design requirements dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

operat<strong>in</strong>g hours and non-operat<strong>in</strong>g hours when the station is<br />

closed <strong>for</strong> passenger service.<br />

2.6.2 AIR-CONDITIONING & MECHANICAL<br />

VENTILATION SYSTEMS<br />

2.6.2.1 Where air-condition<strong>in</strong>g system is provided <strong>in</strong> lieu of<br />

mechanical ventilation system dur<strong>in</strong>g emergency, all the<br />

requirements specified <strong>in</strong> this <strong>Standard</strong> <strong>for</strong> the mechanical<br />

ventilation system shall apply to the air-condition<strong>in</strong>g system.<br />
