2.5.5.2 The fire alarm system shall comply with the requirements of<br />

the SS CP 10 Code of Practice <strong>for</strong> The Installation and<br />

Servic<strong>in</strong>g of Electrical <strong>Fire</strong> Alarm <strong>Systems</strong> except as here<strong>in</strong><br />

modified:<br />

(a) For underground station without <strong>Fire</strong> Command Centre<br />

(FCC), the ma<strong>in</strong> alarm panel shall be located <strong>in</strong> the<br />

firemen’s staircase at ground level. All fire alarm<br />

signals shall also be transmitted to the Passenger<br />

Service Centre (PSC), if provided;<br />

(b) Buffer area, air lock, air plenum, above-ground outdoor<br />

cool<strong>in</strong>g tower enclosure and naturally cross-ventilated<br />

public areas need not be provided with detectors.<br />

(c) Station public areas shall not be provided with alarm<br />

bells and manual call po<strong>in</strong>ts. Ancillary areas of<br />

aboveground light rapid transit (LRT) stations shall not<br />

be provided with alarm bells.<br />

(d) Alarm bells <strong>in</strong> the commercial spaces on the<br />

commercial floor shall only sound if spr<strong>in</strong>klers,<br />

detectors or manual call po<strong>in</strong>ts are activated with<strong>in</strong> the<br />

commercial spaces.<br />

(e) In addition to the alarm bells, sufficient visual<br />

alarm devices e.g. beacon lights shall be provided <strong>in</strong> but<br />

not limited to the follow<strong>in</strong>g plantrooms where the<br />

background noise is excessive:<br />

(i) Environment control system plantroom;<br />

(ii) Tunnel ventilation fan room;<br />

(iii) Underplat<strong>for</strong>m exhaust fan room;<br />

(iv) Smoke extract fan room;<br />

(v) <strong>Civil</strong> Defence generator room; and<br />

(vi) <strong>Civil</strong> Defence cool<strong>in</strong>g tower room.<br />

(f) For fire detection <strong>in</strong> station public areas, l<strong>in</strong>ear heat<br />

detectors of the optic fibre type and optical beam l<strong>in</strong>etype<br />

detectors can be considered <strong>in</strong> the concealed<br />

ceil<strong>in</strong>g spaces and under the ceil<strong>in</strong>gs respectively.<br />

Where l<strong>in</strong>ear heat detectors are used, the coverage shall<br />

be equivalent to the po<strong>in</strong>t-type detectors.<br />
