(10) Work with <strong>NDMA</strong> to have a robust communication infrastructure for efficient use<br />
in disaster times.<br />
b. Emergency <strong>Response</strong><br />
(1) Designate a representative to the <strong>National</strong> EOC.<br />
(2) Ensure that IT and telecommunication system functions well during disaster<br />
times for effective emergency response.<br />
(3) Engage private sector IT firms to provide support during disaster.<br />
(4) Deploy technical staff to support EOCs and PDMAs in disaster situation.<br />
(5) Monitor situation and ensue that communication and IT System function<br />
smoothly to carry out emergency response.<br />
(6) Document the lesson learnt from the response experiences and incorporate<br />
same in future planning.<br />
9. Ministry of Information and Broadcasting<br />
a. Emergency Preparedness<br />
(1) Formulate communication strategy and guidelines for public and private<br />
broadcasters in relation to reporting on emergency response.<br />
(2) Ensure that public and private broadcasters, broadcast responsible factually<br />
correct information in electronic and print media.<br />
(3) Take proper and adequate steps for the protection of own installations and<br />
property.<br />
(4) Prepare inventory of public and private radio/TV stations and local, TV cable<br />
operators and national daily news papers along with their detailed addresses.<br />
(5) Organize training programmes on reporting on emergency response for media<br />
journalists and relevant government departments.<br />
b. Emergency <strong>Response</strong><br />
(1) Ensure that the news-items relating to disaster reflect accurate picture and do<br />
not create undue panic.<br />
(2) Take steps for due projection of news directives relating to the situation issued<br />
by the Federal Government agencies concerned with response, including<br />
<strong>NDMA</strong>.<br />
(3) Disseminate information about the short/long term measures initiated by<br />
different ministries and departments for relief and rehabilitation of affected<br />
people.<br />
(4) Curtail normal programmes to broadcast essential information on disaster, if<br />
requested by the Chairman NMDA.<br />
(5) Arrange comprehensive media rebuttal in events of any distorted news<br />
projections by segment of local/foreign media, in concert with <strong>NDMA</strong>.
