(7) Produce IEC material on health and hygiene in relation to water and sanitation<br />

and organize awareness programme for communities through local NGOs and<br />

media.<br />

b. Emergency <strong>Response</strong><br />

(1) Designate a representative to the provincial EOC.<br />

(2) Conduct rapid assessment of water and sanitation for emergency response.<br />

(3) Provide safe drinking water according to the Sphere Project Minimum<br />

Standards to the affected population in emergency situation.<br />

(4) Provide support to district level PHED for effective emergency response.<br />

(5) Facilitate local and INGOs working on water and sanitation activities in<br />

emergency.<br />

(6) Exercise vigilance about any out break/possibility of epidemic outbreak due to<br />

water and sanitary conditions. Take effective measures against it.<br />

(7) Ensure that water and sanitation system is operational in public buildings during<br />

emergency situation.<br />

4. Education Department<br />

a. Emergency Preparedness<br />

(1) Finalize emergency preparedness plan for education sector in the province and<br />

share it with district education department, DDMA, PDMA, <strong>NDMA</strong>.<br />

(2) Compile a roster of the volunteer teachers and students who can be deployed<br />

as workforce in emergency response.<br />

(3) Develop education assessment checklist for emergency assessment.<br />

(4) Prepare a list of government schools and colleges that may be used for relief<br />

camps. Draw up list of suppliers for stationery, school text books, school bags,<br />

uniforms and share it with DDMAs, PDMA and <strong>NDMA</strong>.<br />

(5) Organize orientation programme to raise awareness of education authorities‟<br />

professors and teachers about emergency response and role of education<br />

department.<br />

(6) Ensure water and sanitation facilities in the school buildings in disaster prone<br />

districts.<br />

(7) Construct new school buildings on high raised platforms to protect from floods<br />

and cyclones.<br />

(8) Coordinate with PDMA, DDMAs for emergency response.<br />

b. Emergency <strong>Response</strong><br />

(1) Designate a representative to the provincial EOC.<br />

(2) Make arrangements to deploy teachers and student for voluntary assistance in<br />

assessment and distribution of relief goods in the affected areas.
