5. Public Information Officer<br />
a. Report to. Director NEOC.<br />

e. Job Purpose. The Public Information Officer will devise communication strategy for<br />
the media and public. Provide support to the Director NEOC and NDMC to organize<br />
the press briefings, press conference, provide support to prepare the press releases,<br />
contact with media and organize press conference. Collect information from<br />
P/R/SEOC, DEOC and consolidate and prepare report and circulate within the NEOC<br />
and senior <strong>NDMA</strong> team.<br />
f. Key Responsibilities<br />
(1) Collect figure and facts on the crisis and prepare dissemination of safety<br />
bulletin, clips to the media and public.<br />
(2) Set up the public information area of the NEOC.<br />
(3) Organize briefing for media representative on regular basis.<br />
(4) With the consultation of Director NEOC Identify official spoke person for the<br />
news media (In most cases it should be restricted to the Chairman <strong>NDMA</strong> or<br />
PM Representative or person from information ministry or foreign ministry).<br />
(5) After securing approval from the Director of NEOC and Chief Coordinator<br />
NEOCC (Chairman <strong>NDMA</strong>), issue news release announcing preliminary steps<br />
the government is taking for increasing preparedness and readiness.<br />
(6) Reply to queries and questions of the public and media regarding the<br />
emergency/disaster.<br />
(7) Prepare schedule and organized press conference for media and general public<br />
to keep them informed about the situation.<br />
(8) Information, advice or instructions related to living in the shelter for the duration<br />
of disaster (sanitation, water, food preparation etc).<br />
(9) Monitor display boards and situation maps and consult the Director of NEOC to<br />
keep informed of local situations above which the public should be provided<br />
information and advice.<br />
(10) Coordinate with P/R/SEOC and DEOC public information officer to collect<br />
information and consolidate it and disseminate in the national news channels<br />
and Daily newspaper.<br />
(11) Circulate media briefs to the humanitarian organizations, UN, Government etc.<br />
g. Person Specification<br />
(1) Master degree in Mass communication/journalism.
