(5) Camps should be designed in a way that it provides privacy and security to the<br />

affected population.<br />

(6) Provision of basic services such as Water/Sanitation and medical services etc.<br />

(7) The tents are according to the weather conditions and quality meets the<br />

minimum standards.<br />

(8) Security and protection kept in mind at the time of site selection, planning and<br />

designing of the camp.<br />

(9) The topography, drainage and soil conditions at site are appropriate.<br />

(10) Open space for community activities for example, meeting, social gatherings<br />

and activities for children etc.<br />

(11) Select persons from the affected population for day to day camp management/<br />

or set up a camp management committee consisting of affected population and<br />

local authorities.<br />

(12) Provide proper garbage disposal system in the camp.<br />

c. Standards for the Camps<br />

(1) Specification<br />

(2) Layout<br />

(a) Land 3.0-4.5 m2 per person<br />

(b) Shelter 3.5 m2 per person<br />

(c) Water 15-20 liters per person/per day<br />

(d) Food 2100kcal/person/day<br />

(e) Latrine One per family 6-10 persons<br />

(f) Water tapper One community 80-100 persons<br />

(g) Health Centre One per camp 20,000 persons<br />

(h). Hospital One up to 200,000 persons<br />

(a) 3-4 hectares of land/1000 person<br />

(b) Roads of 10 meters width<br />

(c) Minimum distance between edge of roads and tents of 2 meters<br />

(d) Minimum distance between tents 8 meters<br />

(e) Minimum floor area/tent of 3 square meters per person<br />

(3) Water Distribution<br />

(a) Minimum capacity of tanks 200 liters<br />

(b) Minimum capacity/per capita of 15 liters/day<br />

(c) Minimum distance of tanks from the tents of 100 meters<br />

(4) Solid Waste Disposal. Containers in tent camps or building camps<br />

should be:-<br />

(a) Water proof
