(7) Organize training on disaster preparedness and emergency response for<br />

factory workers and owners .<br />

(8) Monitor and promote implementation of safety codes in industry including<br />

adherence to minimum standards of safety measure for workers.<br />

(9) Lay down safety codes for all industries to reduce risks of industrial and<br />

chemical hazards and prepare SOPs for emergency response to industrial<br />

disasters.<br />

(10) Transport<br />

(a) Make an inventory list of all vehicles including their location and<br />

conditions.<br />

(b) Device mechanism for speedy deployment of transport resources in<br />

affected areas.<br />

(c) Work out a plan for fuel replenishment and allocate funds accordingly.<br />

b. Emergency <strong>Response</strong><br />

(1) Designate a representative to the provincial EOC.<br />

(2) Immediately deploy fire fighters in case of fire in an industrial unit.<br />

(3) Evacuate people immediately and provide first aid.<br />

(4) Arrange transportation of personnel and material to affected areas as well as<br />

evacuation of affectees.<br />

(5) Take steps for rehabilitation of industries adversely affected by disasters.<br />

15. Information and Archives Department<br />

a. Emergency Preparedness<br />

(1) Ensure that public/private news-media give correct information.<br />

(2) Take proper and adequate steps for the protection of own installations and<br />

property.<br />

(3) Prepare inventory of public and private radio/TV stations, local TV cable<br />

operators and provincial local daily news papers along with their detailed<br />

addresses.<br />

(4) Organize training programmes for media, and journalists and relevant<br />

government departments on reporting on emergency response.<br />

b. Emergency <strong>Response</strong><br />

(1) Designate a representative to the PEOC.<br />

(2) Ensure that the news-items relating to disaster present accurate picture of the<br />

actual position and do not create undue panic.<br />

(3) Disseminate information about the short/long term measures initiated by<br />

different ministries and departments for relief and rehabilitation of affected<br />

people.
