(4) Curtail normal programmes to broadcast essential information on disaster if<br />

requested by the Chairman <strong>NDMA</strong>/DG PDMA.<br />

(5) Take steps for projection of news and directives relating to the situation issued<br />

by relevant Federal Government agencies including <strong>NDMA</strong>.<br />

(6) Organize visits by local/foreign journalists to affected areas to prevent<br />

misrepresentation/misreporting.<br />

16. Mines and Minerals Department<br />

a. Emergency Preparedness<br />

(1) Finalize emergency preparedness plan.<br />

(2) Prepare contingency plan.<br />

(3) Allocate resources for preparedness and emergency response.<br />

(4) Develop guidelines on safety for mine workers.<br />

(5) Ensure that all workers follow the safety guidelines e.g. wearing mask and<br />

necessary equipment used for safety during work.<br />

(6) Formulate early warning indicators for mines and provide training to workers to<br />

make them aware of preventive measures.<br />

(7) Arrange workers‟ participation in the development of training modules and<br />

safety guidelines.<br />

(8) Train search and rescue teams.<br />

(9) Evolve guidelines for compensation packages in mine related disasters.<br />

(10) Check that all workers are insured through reputable insurance company.<br />

b. Emergency <strong>Response</strong><br />

(1) Assess the situation.<br />

(2) Deploy search and rescue team.<br />

(3) Initiate search and rescue operation.<br />

(4) Provide first aid to the rescued workers and shift them to hospital.<br />

(5) Coordinate with PDMA and DDMAs for further assistance.
