(5) Compile an inventory of hospitals and surgical equipment, human resources,<br />

vehicles, ambulances, medicine stocks, Rural Health Centres, Basic Health<br />

Units and Rural Health Dispensaries. Share it with DDMAs, PDMA, <strong>NDMA</strong>.<br />

(6) Draw up a list of medicines, surgical equipment and hospital material suppliers.<br />

Update this list on six monthly basis and share it with PDMA, <strong>NDMA</strong>.<br />

(7) Act as focal point in the province for managing all aspects of health care,<br />

preparedness, relief and recovery in close coordination with PDMA.<br />

(8) Evolve epidemic early warning indicators.<br />

(9) Craft strategies for community participation in health activities. Design short<br />

training courses on health and emergencies and conduct training for health staff<br />

volunteers etc.<br />

(10) Produce IEC material on public health issues in emergencies.<br />

b. Emergency <strong>Response</strong><br />

(1) Designate a representative to the Provincial EOC.<br />

(2) Mobilize and deploy medical teams and paramedic staff for rapid assessment<br />

and quick response in the affected areas.<br />

(3) Exercise vigilance about outbreak or possibility of any epidemic/outbreaks.<br />

Take effective measures against it.<br />

(4) Support district health teams in carrying out smooth health services in<br />

emergency response. Develop plan for health sector in recovery phase, if<br />

needed.<br />

(5) Coordinate and facilitate other humanitarian actors working in health sector.<br />

(6) Prepare a detailed report and disseminate it widely.<br />

(7) Document lessons learnt from the response experience and incorporate same<br />

in future planning.<br />

3. Public Health Engineering Department (PHED)<br />

a. Emergency Preparedness<br />

(1) Prepare emergency preparedness plan.<br />

(2) Develop hazard specific contingency plan.<br />

(3) Allocate resources for preparedness and emergency response.<br />

(4) Coordinate with PDMA to get list of public buildings which can be used for<br />

temporary shelter in emergency and make sure that water and sanitation<br />

facilities are available therein.<br />

(5) Improve sewerage system and sanitary conditions to control flood risks.<br />

(6) Follow and promote Sphere Project Minimum Standards on water and<br />

sanitation activities.
