in future planning.<br />
6. Livestock Department<br />
a. Emergency Preparedness<br />
(1) Finalize emergency preparedness plan.<br />
(2) Finalize hazard specific contingency plan and allocate resources for<br />
preparedness and emergency response activities.<br />
(3) Draw up assessment checklist for emergency assessment programme. Orient<br />
and train livestock department staff on the role of livestock in emergency<br />
response.<br />
(4) Develop guidelines for cattle camps. Identify possible geographical areas for<br />
cattle camps in disaster prone districts.<br />
(5) Maintain reserve quota for essential vaccine and inform district livestock<br />
departments, DDMAs, PDMA, <strong>NDMA</strong> and prepare annual vaccination plan for<br />
the prevention of animals from any outbreak in disaster prone districts.<br />
(6) Compile an inventory of equipment, human resources, vehicles, and a list of<br />
veterinary medicines and animal feed suppliers. Update inventory on six<br />
monthly basis and share it with the PDMA.<br />
(7) Develop community participation strategy. Design and conduct short training<br />
courses. Produce IEC material for veterinary assistants, community workers<br />
livestock owners on livestock management, first aid, cattle camps, vaccination<br />
in emergency response.<br />
(8) Provide guidance and support to district livestock department to prepare<br />
contingency plan for the potential disaster in the area.<br />
b. Emergency <strong>Response</strong><br />
(1) Designate a representative to the provincial EOC.<br />
(2) Conduct/assist PDMA in rapid assessment on livestock and provide financial<br />
and technical resources to the district livestock departments to run the animal<br />
camps.<br />
(3) Arrange vaccines for animals in flood, cyclone and drought situation. Support<br />
districts livestock departments, DDMAs for the provision of fodder, de-worming<br />
medicines and vaccine for the animals in prolonged drought situation.<br />
(4) Make arrangements for delivery of animal feed on subsidized rates in<br />
emergency response particularly in drought.<br />
(5) Exercise vigilance about disease attack in animals. Take effective measures<br />
against. Coordinate and facilitate humanitarian organizations working in the<br />
livestock sector.
