ADM100 Lesson: Performing Data Archiving<br />

1. Create a variant for the write program. Name the variant Write_##,<br />

where ## is your group number. Maintain the process control for<br />

the variant so that an Archive and Delete is executed. Then schedule<br />

the write program with the start time Immediate and the predefined<br />

spool parameters.<br />

a) On the initial screen of transaction SARA, enter the value<br />

WORKITEM in the Object Name field and choose Write. Onthe<br />

following screen, enter the value Write_## in the Variant field,<br />

where ## is your group number, and choose Maintain. Confirm<br />

the dialog box by choosing Continue. On the following screen,<br />

Maintain Variant: Report RSWWARCA, Variant Write_##, select the<br />

Archive and Delete radiobuttonintheProcess Control group box.<br />

Then choose Variant Attributes. Enter a useful short description<br />

in the Description field and choose Save. Thistakesyoubackto<br />

the variant maintenance overview screen. Choose Back. Onthe<br />

initial screen Archive Administration: Create Archive Files, choose<br />

Start Date. On the following screen, choose Immediate and then<br />

Save. Simply confirm the spool parameters by choosing Spool<br />

params. and then Continue on the next screen. Finally, choose<br />

Execute and return to the initial screen of transaction SARA.<br />

2. Display the spool list and the job log of the archive run.<br />

a) On the initial screen of the archive administration transaction<br />

(SARA), enter the value WORKITEM in the Object Name field and<br />

choose Job Overview. The system displays an overview of the<br />

archiving jobs that you have scheduled. Select the row for the<br />

job ARV_WORKITEM_WRI and choose Display Spool<br />

List. On the next screen, select the row for the spool list and<br />

choose Display Contents. Thenreturntothejoboverview,select<br />

the job, and choose Display Job Log. Among other things, the<br />

system displays which file is created in which path at operating<br />

system level. Note the file name and file path.<br />

3. Check whether an archiving file was created at file system level.<br />

a) You have already checked in the Customizing settings that<br />

the archive file is to be written to the directory specified by<br />

the parameter DIR_GLOBAL. Now call the <strong>SAP</strong> Directories<br />

transaction (transaction AL11) and double click the<br />

DIR_GLOBAL entry. On the following screen, you can check<br />

whether a file with the name from the last subtask was created.<br />

Task 4 Start Delete Program<br />

Now delete the objects archived in the previous task from your database.<br />

To do this, schedule the delete program, run it, and monitor its processing.<br />
