development object<br />

Component of an ABAP application. Development objects include:<br />

Programs such as transactions, reports, subroutines, and function<br />

modules; program components such as event blocks, screens, and<br />

menus; and objects, used by several programs (such as database<br />

fields, field definitions, and program messages).<br />

DIAG<br />

Dynamic Information and Action Gateway: Protocol for<br />

communication between the <strong>SAP</strong> GUI and the application server (also<br />

known as the <strong>SAP</strong> GUI protocol).<br />

dispatcher<br />

Central process of an instance. It is responsible, among other things,<br />

for starting work processes and distributing the transaction workload<br />

to the work processes.<br />

Dynpro<br />

DYNamic PROgram. A dynamic program consists of a screen image<br />

and its underlying flow logic, programmed in ABAP.<br />

enqueue server<br />

Enqueue server is a possible description for the instance of an <strong>SAP</strong><br />

system on which the enqueue work process manages the lock table in<br />

a distributed <strong>SAP</strong> system.<br />

F4 help<br />

The F4 help provides you with input help for a field that is ready for<br />

input.<br />

Work center computer<br />

gateway<br />

Interface that converts one communication protocol into another<br />

communication protocol.<br />

HTML<br />

HyperText Markup Language (HTML): Document description<br />

language for creating HTML pages in the Internet. HTML documents<br />

have a uniform format and consist only of ASCII text. They can either<br />

be stored statically in the file system of the Web server of be generated<br />

dynamically at runtime by special programs. The Web servers sends<br />

them to the Web browser, which interprets and displays them.<br />

HTTP<br />

Application protocol of the World Wide Web (WWW). The HyperText<br />

Transfer Protocol (HTTP) controls communication between the Web<br />

browser (the HTTP client) and the Web server (the HTTP server).<br />

instance<br />

Administrative unit that groups components of an <strong>SAP</strong> system that<br />

provide one or more services. These services are started and stopped<br />

at the same time.<br />
