Unit 2: Starting and Stopping the SAP System ADM100
Figure 13: Start Sequence of Processes of the SAP System
Start sequence of the processes: Explain in detail which processes are
started in which order by the service SAP_ when
an instance is started. The service SAP_ takes
information about the properties of the instance (such as instance type and
the type and number of work processes) from the start profile, and the
dispatcher from the default and instance profiles.
System Demo: Log on to your server with the Terminal Server Client. Use
the operating system user adm with the password adm to do
this. Display the SAP_ services.
Open the Microsoft Management Console. Display the entries for the
training systems and the corresponding instances. Start the central
instance first and then the dialog instance. You can use the program
Quickslice (Start → Run → qslice) to show the individual processes that
are started in parallel.
The specifications of the instances; that is, the type and number
of processes, main memory sizes, and other options are
controlled at the start of the instances using profiles. These are
files at operating system level that are stored in the directory
\\\sapmnt\\sys\profile.
