Unit 8: Support Packages, Plug-Ins, and Add-Ons ADM100 The SPAM/SAINT update is also explained at this point, after SPAM and SAINT have been introduced. Only after the participants are familiar with these two transactions can they understand why the transactions themselves require an update, and why this cannot be contained in a “normal” Support Package together with other corrections. This is because it would change the mechanism with which the Support Packages are imported, which is too dangerous. This also explains why transaction SPAM terminates after a SPAM/SAINT update is imported, and must be called again: it has replaced itself. Sometimes, it is vital to perform a SPAM/SAINT update before importing Support Packages (see notes). Why? For example, because a new SPAM is required to read new header information from the Support Packages. The SPAM/SAINT update also often contains optical changes to the transactions or new functions to make them more user-friendly. System Demo: Only as of this point can the you give a useful demonstration of what you have explained; that is, actually import a SPAM/SAINT update. After this, you should also import both of the “pseudo” Support Packages. Caution: This is the best time to perform the exercises. Note that it is not possible for both groups working on a host to perform the exercise at the same time. You should perhaps first send the QAS groups for a break and let the DEV groups perform the exercises, and then send the DEV groups for a break while the QAS groups perform the exercises. However, since it is only necessary to perform the work at file system level once, the second group should watch the first group perform this work before going for their break. You receive enhancements and improvements for SPAM and SAINT with a SPAM/SAINT Update. There is one update for each correction status, which is updated over time. You can find out the version from the short description, for example: SPAM/SAINT update - version /0001 A SPAM/SAINT Update always appears first, for example in the SAPNet - R/3 Frontend in the Support Package list, that is, before the other Support Package types. We recommend that you always import the newest version of a SPAM/SAINT Update before you importotherSupportPackages. ADM100 Lesson: Updating the Tools You can only successfully import a SPAM/SAINT Update if there are no aborted Support Packages in the system. If there are aborted Support Packages, a dialog box informs you of this. You then have two options: • You first import the complete queue and then the SPAM/SAINT update. • You reset the status of the queue, first import the SPAM/SAINT Update and then the queue. You can reset the status of the queue by choosing Extras → Reset Status → Queue. To import the newest SPAM/SAINT Update, choose Support Package Import → SPAM/SAINT Update.
