• For many printers, you can use a generic format (such as PostScript)
for which device types exist. It is also possible that your printer can
be addressed in the same way as another model that is supported by
SAP (compatibility mode).
• There are drivers for the Microsoft Windows operating systems for
practically all printers on the market. You can use these printers as
output devices with device type SWIN. The conversion to a print data
stream is performed by the Microsoft Windows driver in this case.
• The SAP system contains all of the tools required to create your own
device types or to adjust copies of existing device types. Detailed
knowledge of the SAP spool system and the printer control are
required to do this. You should weigh up the expense against the
purchase of supported printers.
