Exercise Objectives<br />

After completing this exercise, you will be able to:<br />

• Start an <strong>SAP</strong> system<br />

Business Example<br />

As the administrator of <strong>SAP</strong> systems, you need to stop the systems for<br />

maintenance purposes or after changing system parameters, and then<br />

restart them.<br />

Task 1 Starting with the Microsoft Management<br />

Console<br />

Start the <strong>SAP</strong> system using Microsoft Management Console.<br />

1. Start the <strong>SAP</strong> system using Microsoft Management Console. Monitor<br />

the start of the processes of your system.<br />

To do this, log on to the server for your training system using the<br />

Terminal Server Client.<br />

2. Which process types are started at operating system level after your<br />

system is started up?<br />

3. Check whether your system started correctly. To do this, log on to<br />

your <strong>SAP</strong> system and call the process overview. Compare the list<br />

of processes at operating system level with the process overview<br />

in the <strong>SAP</strong> system.<br />

Task 2 Starting from the Command Line (Optional)<br />

Start the <strong>SAP</strong> system using a command call.<br />

1. Start the <strong>SAP</strong> instances by entering the command startsap. Startthe<br />

central instance first and then the dialog instances.<br />
