Unit 12: Setting Up Remote Connections ADM100
Lesson:
384
Fundamentals and Types of RFC
Lesson Duration: 30 minutes
Lesson Overview
This lesson will provide you with an overview of Remote Function Calls.
Lesson Objectives
After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
• Explain the principle of the Remote Function Call
• List the different types of Remote Function Call
The instructor should know that asynchronous RFCs can be used to process
background jobs in parallel (the application must already be programmed
in a way that allows this). A report that runs in the background starts a
processing step in a new work process: a free dialog work process. This
canbedoneanumberoftimes. However, this is an exceptional situation,
in which a work process is subordinated or assigned or to another.
Business Example
SAP systems can communicate with each other using Remote Function
Calls. A prerequisite for this is that the administrator has set up the
relevant interface system.
RFC Fundamentals
Remote Function Calls are the technical interface with which SAP and
non-SAP systems can be networked with each other in the context of
the “Enterprise Services Architecture”. It is irrelevant whether the data
exchange it to be synchronous or asynchronous, periodic or aperiodic, or
transactional. All conceivable variants are supported.
