The next two figures should clarify the differences between and similarities
of workbench and Customizing requests.
Similarities: same structure (request/task(s)), different employees with
appropriate authorizations.
Differences: no assignments of Customizing to packages, object locks only
during the actual work in the case of Customizing.
When a Customizing project starts, the Customizing project administrator
creates a change request for Customizing objects in the Transport
Organizer (transaction SE09). He or she assigns the employees involved
to the Customizing request. The Transport Organizer assigns a number
(K9, such as DEVK900055) to the Customizing request.
A Customizing request can only contain client-dependent Customizing
objects. Cross-client Customizing that is to be transported must be
recorded in a change request of “Workbench” type, as it is dealing with
settings that apply system-wide.
