Lesson Overview<br />

This lesson will provide you with an introduction to monitoring as a<br />

significant component of the Computing Center Management System<br />

(CCMS). Terms such as monitoring tree element (MTE), monitoring object,<br />

and monitoring attribute will be discussed in detail.<br />

Lesson Objectives<br />

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:<br />

• Explain the concepts of the CCMS Alert Monitoring Infrastructure<br />

• Use the CCMS Alert Monitor to monitor your system<br />

This lesson introduces the participants to the architecture and terminology<br />

of monitoring.<br />

Business Example<br />

You want to ensure good performance for the processing of business<br />

processes. You therefore regularly monitor the <strong>SAP</strong> systems, and take<br />

preventative action if required.<br />

Basics<br />

Clarify the reasons for preventative system monitoring with the<br />

participants. Note that acute performance problems can also be dealt with<br />

using the monitoring infrastructure. Lead the participants to the desire for<br />

central monitoring of a complex and extensive system landscape.<br />
