5 Univention Management Console 5.3.4 System information The system information module collects information relating to the hardware of the current system. This can then be requested in a support case, for instance. The transmission of the information is also used to broaden the database of hardware supported by UCS. All files are forwarded to Univention anonymously and only transferred once permission has been received from the user. The start dialogue contains the entry fields Manufacturer and Model, which must be completed with the values determined from the DMI information of the hardware. The fields can also be adapted and an additional Descriptive comment added. If the system information is transferred as part of a support request, the This is related to a support case option should be activated. A ticket number can be entered in the next field; this facilitates assignment and allows quicker processing. Clicking on Next offers an overview of the transferred system information. In addition, a compressed .tar archive is created, which contains a list of the hardware components used in the system and can be downloaded via Archive with system information. Clicking on Next again allows you to select the way the data are transferred to Univention. Upload trans- mits the data via HTTPS, Send mail (optional) opens a dialogue, which can be used to initiate sending via e-mail. 5.3.5 Univention Configuration Registry The Univention Configuration Registry module is used to display and change Univention Configuration Registry variables. There is also the possibility of registering new Univention Configuration Registry variables. Further information on Univention Configuration Registry can be found in Chapter 14. A search mask is displayed on the start page. Along with the category, search filters can also be selected for variable names, the value or the description. Following a successful search, the variables found are displayed in a table with the variable name, the value, the description and the category (see Figure 5.4. Clicking on the variable name opens the editing mask for a variable. The following settings can be made there: • the value • the category (e.g., desktop or mail) • the type (e.g., string) • the description in a number of languages A few core variables - e.g. the domain name - cannot be modified directly, but only indirectly by means of Univention System Setup or the UMC base wizards. These variables are displayed grayed-out. Changes using the command line frontend are still possible. Once changes have been made, the action can be completed with the Set button or cancelled with the Cancel button. The last search is then displayed. 158

Unlike the editing mask, the name of the variable can also be given here; the page is otherwise structured identically. 5.3.6 Printer administration This module offers the possibility of checking the status of individual printers, restarting paused printers or deleting print jobs out of the queue. The start page of the module contains a search mask with which the available printers can be selected. The results list displays the server, name, status, print quota properties, location and description of the respective printer. The status of more than one printer can be changed simultaneously by selecting the printers and running either the deactivate or activate function. Clicking on the printer name displays details of the selected printer. The information displayed includes a list of the print jobs currently in the printer queue. These print jobs can be deleted from the queue by selecting the jobs and running the [Delete] function. 5.3.7 Process overview The module Process overview shows all current processes in a table. By default, a maximum of 50 processes are displayed. The menu item Number of processes allows this value to be changed to 10, 159
