9.5.2.6 Nagios monitoring
The component univention-thin-client-nagios is available for monitoring thin clients with Nagios. This
allows monitoring of both accessibility and the degree of utilisation.
For monitoring how accessible the thin client is the Nagios service UNIVENTION_PING can be activated
on the thin client object as for other UCS system roles in Univention Directory Manager. For monitoring
the degree of utilisation, a new Nagios service object must be created in Univention Directory Manager
with the name UNIVENTION_LOAD. Only the compulsory fields need to be filled out for this.
The parameterisation of the monitoring of the degree of utilisation is performed via two Univention Config-
uration Registry variables on the thin client:
thinclient/nagios/load/warning: Defines the thresholds for a warning for the Nagios plugin. The value
is composed of three figures, which define the limits for the time intervals 1, 5 and 15 minutes
respectively,
thinclient/nagios/load/critical: Defines the thresholds for a critical state. The value is composed in the
Example:
same way as for the warning level.
thinclient/nagios/load/warning=0.5,0.4,0.3
thinclient/nagios/load/critical=0.8,0.7,0.6
If these variables are not set via a policy, the following preset values are defined:
thinclient/nagios/load/warning=0.1,0.1,0.1
thinclient/nagios/load/critical=0.5,0.5,0.5
The Nagios service UNIVENTION_LOAD can then be added as for other Nagios services on the thin client
object.
For this Nagios plugin it is necessary for the Nagios server to have access to the thin client. The NRPE
service running on the thin client must allow this access. As standard, the LDAP server is allowed access.
The Univention Configuration Registry variable nagios/client/allowedhosts can be set to allow
other computers access. The variable must contain a list of IP addresses separated by commas.
9.5.2.7 Font server
A font server can be used to save space on thin clients with flash cards or use a central font collection.
This service is used by the thin client’s x-server to request fonts from the font server entered instead of
using local fonts. There is also the possibility of combining both versions.
The Univention Configuration Registry variable xorg/fonts/server can be set using a Univention Con-
figuration Registry policy to allow thin clients to use a font server in addition to local fonts. The value must
reflect the syntax, which must also be used in the xorg.conf file:
xorg/fonts/server=/:
For this, must be replaced with tcp or unix depending on which transport protocol is used to
access the font server. tcp should be selected here for thin clients. The fully qualified domain name of the
