6 Univention Virtual Machine Manager (UVMM)
Figure 6.2: Overview of a virtual instance
In the first step a profile is selected (Figure 6.3) which specifies some of the basic settings for the virtual
machine (e.g., a name prefix, number of CPUs, RAM and whether the direct access per VNC should be
activated).
The existing UVMM profiles are stored in the LDAP directory and can also be edited there. The
profiles can be found in the Navigation section of Univention Directory Manager in the container
cn=Profiles,cn=Virtual Machine Manager. Additional profiles can also be added there.
The virtual machine is now given a Name (up to 25 characters) and a Description and assigned Memory
and CPUs.
The Enable direct access option specifies whether the machine can be accessed via the VNC protocol.
This is generally required for the initial operating system installation.
Now the disk drives of the virtual machines are configured. The setup is documented in Section 6.3.2.3.
Clicking Finish concludes the creation of the virtual machine.
