4 Univention Directory Manager
66
’General’ tab
Name (*)
The name of the network is entered in this input field. The network appears under this name in other
areas of Univention Directory Managers such as in computer management (see Section 4.5.4).
Network (*)
The network address is entered in dot-decimal form in this input field.
Example:
192.168.1.0
Netmask (*)
The network mask can be entered in this input field in binary (network prefix) or dot-decimal form.
Attention:
If the network mask is entered in dot-decimal form it will be subsequently be converted into the
corresponding network prefix and later also shown so.
Example:
The network mask 255.255.255.0 will be shown as 24 later.
’IP’ tab
One or more IP ranges can be stored in this tab. When a host is assigned to this network at a later
point, it will automatically be assigned the next, free IP address from the IP range entered here.
When no IP range is entered here, the system automatically uses the area suggested by the network
and the subnet mark entered on the General tab.
Attention:
If a single IP address is entered as a range, the IP address must be entered in both the First Address
and Last Address input fields.
Attention:
The IP ranges must not overlap. Otherwise an error warning will be given alerting you of the overlap
when you confirm with the [OK] button.
’DNS’ tab
Forward lookup zones and reverse lookup zones can be selected on this tab. When a unit is assigned
to this network at a later point, a host record in the forward lookup zone and/or a pointer record in
the reverse lookup zone will be created for the unit automatically. If no zone is selected, no automatic
entries will be created. There is always the possibility of editing the settings both on the unit object
and directly in the DNS zones.
