Attention: Values entered into the entry field ➊ without being accepted by clicking the [+] button, will not be added to the list field Entries when the user subsequently confirms the changes in the object! 4.2.2 Notes on group membership To allow a comfortable management of the group members, an additional dialogue element was introduced (see Illustration 4.5). With the help of this dialogue element, a search for certain criteria within a set of objects, can be performed, and selected objects of this set can be added to the group . The element is used, among other things, for selecting members for a user group. In the select list Property (➊ in Illustration 4.5), an attribute can be selected as a search criterion. With some attributes, an entry field replacing the placeholder none ➋, will automatically be loaded after the selection was made. In the additional entry field ➋, which is named after the attribute, a search pattern can be entered. In doing so, an asterisk ’*’ can be used as a placeholder for a string of arbitrary characters. 46 Figure 4.5: Example for group membership
4.3 Univention Directory Manager Wizards Clicking the [show] button causes all objects which fit the entered search criterion, to be displayed in the list field All ➌. The list field Current ➍ shows the currently selected objects. The [▹] and [◃] ➎ buttons can be used for swapping the selected objects between the list fields All and Current, and thus for including them in or excluding them from the group. 4.3 Univention Directory Manager Wizards Besides the LDAP Navigation for navigating within the directory tree, Univention Directory Manager offers a number of wizards in the main menu on the left-hand side of the page (see Illustration 4.2). These wizards are interfaces for frequently occurring administrative procedures. By default, the following wizards are displayed: • Users • Groups • Networks • Computer • DNS • DHCP • Printers • Shares • Policies Depending on the installed software and the licence used, the number of wizards may vary. After clicking a wizard, a submenu will open, and the items Search and Add will be displayed. The search is activated and a search performed for the current object type. If you do not wish to search directly - perhaps in large environments with many objects - this function can be suppressed by setting the Univention Configuration Registry variable directory/manager/web/modules/autosearch to 0. 4.3.1 The ”Search” submenu The Search submenu is a simple means of searching and/or editing objects of a certain type or of a certain group of types. In the Search select list, the user can choose between different search areas; thus he can specify which parts of the LDAP directory are to be searched. Further details on the registered containers can be found in chapter 4.5.12.7. If the wizard applies to several Univention Directory Manager modules, then a list of valid object types is displayed under Select type. The Property select list makes it possible to restrict the search to certain attributes. With some properties (e.g. when searching for users with the property Disabled, a checkbox will appear. For most of the remaining properties, an entry field will appear where the value of the relevant attribute can be entered. 47
