Reverse zone for DNS entry
4.5 Univention Directory Manager modules
A reverse lookup zone for the host can be selected here. All the reverse lookup zones entered in the
domain and their subcontainers are available for selection. In addition it is also necessary to select
one of the host’s IP addresses corresponding to the reverse lookup zones with which the host should
be mounted in the reverse lookup zone.
Alias
If a zone entry for forward mapping has been set up for the host in the Forward zone for DNS entry
field, the additional alias entries via which the host can be reached can be configured here.
’DHCP’ tab
More detailed information on the topic of DHCP can be found in the Chapter 4.5.10.
DHCP
In order for a host to receive an IP address from a DHCP service an entry must consist of DHCP
service, MAC address and IP address.
The DHCP service which should assign the host an IP address should be selected in the first selec-
tion field. The DHCP services registered in the domain are available for selection. Please note that
the selected DHCP server must be responsible for the physical network.
The MAC address of the network card with which the host requests an IP address from the DHCP
service must be entered in the second selection field. The MAC address of the host’s network card
required for this must firstly be entered on the General tab.
The IP address which the DHCP service assigns to the host should be selected in the third selection
field.
If a network is selected on the General tab an appropriate entry for the network will be added auto-
matically. This can be adapted subsequently. A DHCP entry is necessary for a thin client under all
circumstances.
’Account’ tab’
This tab is only found on host types which join the UCS domain, e.g., domain controller, managed
clients, Mac OS X clients, . . .
Password
Hosts which are member of the UCS domain require a password to be able to read and change
their own data in the LDAP directory. The host creates a password automatically when joining the
domain and makes a note of this in the /etc/machine.secret file and in the LDAP directory. Any
