13 Print services 13.5.1 Activating the print quotas Activating the print quotas provokes an internal change to the printer URI. If a quote is activated for a printer on a print server without univention-printquota, the printer will be deactivated with the first print job. To activate the print quota for a printer, the respective printer or printer group must be selected in Univention Directory Manager using the printer menu item and the Activate quota entry selected on the General tab. An existing policy can now be selected in the Configuration selection field or a new policy created for the current printer share on the [Print quota] policy tab. Attention: The quota system cannot be used for printer shares which print in a file (file:/) or via a parallel port (parallel:/). This can otherwise lead to the printer being deactivated. 13.5.2 Creating a print quota policy A Print quota policy object can be added in the Univention Directory Manager policy wizard to create print quota policies. The policy must be set in the input mask which opens and then individual ucsMenuEntryPrint quota for users, Print quota for groups or Print quota for groups per user added with the appropriate page limits (see also Section 4.5.11). Soft-Limit can be used to define a page limit where the user is informed when he exceeds the limit. Hard-Limit can be used to set the limit of the page contingent for the user. The quota system interprets the values set minus 1. I.e., if the user has a Hard-Limit of 100, a maximum of 99 pages can be printed. This gives the following special values: 0 - No limit 1 - No page contingent The following examples should emphasise the possibilities available with print quota policies: 272 • To set each user from the Domain Users group a soft limit of 200 pages and a hard limit of 250 pages for the laser01 printer, the laser01 printer must be selected in the Printer module in Univention Directory Manager and a soft limit of 201 pages and a hard limit of 251 pages entered in the Print quota for groups per user field for the Domain Users group on the [Print Quota] tab. Confirming with the [Add] and [OK] buttons enters the quota policy and saves it. • As a member of the Domain Users group, the user user01 is then subject to the print quota policies in place for the printer laser01. If the user is assigned another user-specific print quota with a soft limit of 400 pages and a hard limit of 450 pages in the same manner as described above, he may still only print a maximum of 250 pages. The print quota system does not allow the limit of the other policy to be exceeded. • Each user of the Power Printers group should be assigned a Soft-Limit of 1000 pages and a Hard- Limit of 1200 pages for all inkjet printers in the domain. A new Ink jet printer group needs to be created for this and all the inkjet printers in the domain added to it (see Section 13.3.4). Soft and hard limits are now assigned to the Power Printers group in the Print quota for groups per user field using a Print quota policy with the name PP limit as already described above. Once the added
