15.1 Introduction
Univention System Setup is a tool for reconfiguring a UCS system. It can be used for adapting system
characteristics to changed circumstances as well as for preparing system installations.
User guidance is keyboard-based: The active menu item is displayed on a red background; the arrow keys
UP/DOWN, or the TAB/Shift+TAB keys can be used for navigating between the items.
The input for a Univention System Setup module can be finished by the F12 key; the F11 key can be
used for returning to the previous module (provided that several modules are active). The F8 key is for
exiting Univention System Setup; selection fields can be activated by pressing the space bar. Online help
is accessible via the F1 key.
If Univention System Setup is run on system roles other than domain controller master and information
cannot be written to the LDAP directory, Univention System Setup emits a warning and only performs the
configuration steps which are possible without network access. The computer must then be re-joined in
the domain using univention-join at a later point.
Error analyses are possible by using the log file /var/log/univention/setup.log.
Univention System Setup is based on the Curses library which is used for terminal-based screen display.
The setup requires certain minimum dimensions for the terminal window for proper display. Should the
start be aborted with an error message, then the terminal window is to be enlarged.
