Now you can choose between several installation procedures.<br />

• <strong>Univention</strong> Installer starts the text-based installation routine on the basis of the Linux kernel in<br />

version 2.6.32. With text-based installation, the system requests a number of parameters such as<br />

network settings, hard drive partitions, system role, and the selection of software components for the<br />

computer to be installed. Then the installation is performed. Text-based installation is documented<br />

in chapter 3.2.2.<br />

• Additional options allows the selection of advanced options for the installation process. First a<br />

request appears, requesting the Linux kernel to be installed. Unlike the standard installation, a<br />

kernel based on Linux 2.6.18 can also be selected here.<br />

Different installation versions can then be selected:<br />

– <strong>Univention</strong> Installer (normal mode) performs an interactive standard installation.<br />

– <strong>Univention</strong> Installer Software RAID (expert mode) also starts a text-based installation like<br />

the previous mode. In this version the partitioning, however, is not performed with the support of<br />

the installer, but effected manually. To do this a number of programs including cfdisk, mdadm<br />

and mkfs.ext3 are available. This mode can, for example, be used to set up a software<br />

RAID or an encrypted hard drive partition. After the partitioning, the text-based installation is
