6 Univention Virtual Machine Manager (UVMM)
Direct access defines whether VNC access to the virtual machine is available. If the option is activated,
the UMC module can be used to start a VNC program directly. The VNC URL is displayed in a tool tip.
A Java VNC program is used for this in the default setting. By switching the Univention Configuration
Registry variable uvmm/umc/vnc to the value of external, an external program can be used instead.
This requires the web browser on the workstation computer to be configured properly to handle the
URI scheme vnc://.
Available globally defines whether the VNC remote access is also possible from remote systems. If the
option is not activated, the VNC session can only be accessed from the virtualisation server.
Password sets a password for the VNC connection.
Keyboard layout defines the layout for the keyboard in the VNC session.
6.3.3 Migration of virtual machines from failed virtualization servers
As of UCS 2.4-4, information about the virtual machines running on the virtualization servers is stored
centrally via the Univention Virtual Machine Manager. If the image files of the virtual machines are stored
in a storage pool, the machine can be migrated to another server and restarted there if a virtualization
server fails.
How to set up one of these storage pools is documented in the Univention Wiki [14] and is a prerequisite
for migrations.
If a server fails (failure detection is performed periodically every 15 seconds), the server and the virtual
instances operated on it are identified as inactive with a red symbol, a warning appears (see Figure 6.5)
and Migrate is offered as the only operation in the menu.
