Canonical name (*)<br />

4.5 <strong>Univention</strong> Directory Manager modules<br />

The canonical name of the computer that the alias should point to, entered as a fully qualified domain<br />

name with a full stop at the end or a relative domain name.<br />

The canonical name is the name which was entered in the Hostname input field on the host object.<br />

If the host object was created automatically when adding a computer, the value is the same as the<br />

computer name entered at the time.<br />

4.5.9.3 Host record<br />

Additional information about a computer and its configuration can be defined in a host record. It must<br />

always be assigned to a forward lookup zone and can therefore only be added to a forward lookup zone or<br />

a subordinate container.<br />

Attention:<br />

When adding or editing a computer a host record can be created automatically or edited.<br />

Hostname (*)<br />

The FQDN with a full stop at the end or the relative domain name of the name server. The notes on<br />

computer names (Chapter 4.5.4) must be observed.<br />

IP Address<br />

A host record assigns an Ipv4 address to a DNS name. This entry creates such a record for the<br />

current host.<br />

Zone Time-to-Live<br />

The time to live specifies how long these files may be cached by other DNS servers. The preset value<br />

is three hours.<br />

Further IP addresses for the computer (and further A records) can be entered and removed here.<br />

IP Address<br />

Additional IP addresses where the computer can be reached.<br />

Attention:<br />

In this variant, all IP addresses are assigned to the same canonical name. If each IP address should<br />
