by entering them in the Univention Configuration Registry variable mail/antivir/scanner. Kaspersky
and Sweep (Sophos) are currently tested. The configuration for numerous other scanners is prepared
untested, the settings can be requested from UCS support.
Following installation, the virus scanner ClamAV is active as standard. If another virus scanner
is to be used in addition to or instead of ClamAV, the Univention Configuration Registry variable
mail/antivir/scanner must be set accordingly. If several virus scanners are given they are sepa-
rated by blank spaces. Example:
univention-config-registry set mail/antivir/scanner="clamav sweep"
The Univention Configuration Registry variable mail/antivir is used to activate virus scanners with
(yes) or deactivate them with (no). Changes to mail/antivir/scanner and mail/antivir will only take effect
the next time Postfix and Amavis are restarted.
All incoming and outgoing e-mails are scanned for viruses. If the scanner recognises a virus, the e-mail is
sent to quarantine. That means that the e-mail is stored on the server where it is not accessible to the user.
The original recipient receives a message per e-mail stating that this measure has been taken. If neces-
sary, the administrator can restore or delete this from the /var/lib/amavis/virusmails directory.
Automatic deletion is not performed.
12.6 Configuring mail clients
The following uses Kontact and Outlook Express as examples for which settings are necessary to use the
UCS mail server. Note that the Cyrus inbox server expects the user name to be the primary e-mail address
in lowercase.
Detailed instructions on the configuration possibilities can be taken from the separate documentation avail-
able on the Univention groupware server at http://www.univention.de/download_doku.html.
12.6.1 Kontact
Kontact 1.2.4 (enterprise 20071102-731871) was used for the documentation.
When Kontact is started the component E-Mail should be selected in the left margin. The configuration
dialogue for the mail component of Kontact is executed via Settings ➞Configure KMail.
For this, the following listed settings should be performed as described and any other settings performed
as necessary.
• A standard identity is already set up under Identities. This can be edited by selecting [Modify]. The
user’s primary e-mail address configured on the Mail tab in Univention Directory Manager must be
entered in the Email address field.
• A new outbox must be set up under Accounts on the Sending tab. After selecting [Modify] the
mailing type SMTP must be selected. In the following dialogue window all relevant settings for the
mail server must be performed.
