The software distribution and maintenance mechanism integrated in <strong>UCS</strong> is an extensive mechanism for<br />
the central administration of releases and package versions on all <strong>UCS</strong> systems within a domain. Updates<br />
for <strong>UCS</strong> are provided as release and security updates and hotfixes. These can be retrieved from DVDs or<br />
so-called repository servers.<br />
These repository servers provide the systems of a <strong>UCS</strong> domain with software in the form of packages<br />
which can be downloaded by the <strong>UCS</strong> systems for installation. As of Version 2.2 of <strong>UCS</strong> the possibility<br />
has existed of installing releases updates, security updates, hotfixes and additional components from the<br />
online repository http://apt.univention.de. This negates the need for a local repository server in<br />
many <strong>UCS</strong> domains. Environments where there is no access to an external repository server available, for<br />
example, can still use a local repository server.<br />
These mechanisms for software maintenance only cover the <strong>UCS</strong> systems in a <strong>UCS</strong> domain. Windows<br />
systems are not currently supported, although there is the possibility of starting a script-based software<br />
installation within the scope of an installation using <strong>Univention</strong> Windows Installer. Alternatively, the<br />
