The IP address of the name server which is to be used for resolving host names to IP addresses,
can be entered in the field Name Server. The [More] button offers the possibility of entering multiple
name servers.
If the name server cannot be contacted during installation, it should not be configured during instal-
lation, but rather set after installation using Univention System Setup. This prevents long timeouts
during the installation.
Forwarders are only registered if a local name server is operated within the system. If host names
or IP addresses from DNS requests to the local name server cannot be answered, then the request
is passed on to the forwarder. The reply given by the forwarder is then returned to the requesting
host. The [More] button offers the possibility of entering multiple forwarders.
DNS forwarders are only queried when installing the system roles domain controller master, domain
controller backup and domain controller slave.
Three different situations are possible during DNS setup:
a) The installed system is a domain controller master. A name server for the UCS domain should
be operated here. This name server only administrates computer names and IP addresses
belonging to the UCS domain. To be able to answer requests from external computer names,
an external name server must be entered as forwarder for this server.
If packages are downloaded from external web servers during system installation, the name
server must be specified over which computer names from the web server can be resolved.
