process in group activities with representatives of<br />
the same community or planning area.<br />
Selection Criteria: The target audience <strong>for</strong> this<br />
Workshop includes the following representatives<br />
of local government: elected officials, managers,<br />
planners, emergency program managers, and other<br />
staff with expertise needed <strong>for</strong> mitigation projects.<br />
The Workshop is also intended <strong>for</strong> community<br />
members interested in avoiding or minimizing<br />
hazard losses who may wish to participate in the<br />
mitigation planning process.<br />
Hurricane readiness <strong>for</strong> coastal<br />
communities (g363)<br />
This 2-day course is designed to provide participants<br />
the tools needed to help communities along the coast<br />
prepare <strong>for</strong> and respond to a hurricane event. Upon<br />
completion, the participants will have a background<br />
in understanding advisory products of the National<br />
FEd E r A L Em E r g E N C y mA N A g E m E N T Ag E N C y 84<br />
Weather Service; describe in<strong>for</strong>mation from FEMA<br />
Hurricane Evacuations studies; describe the various<br />
issues and measures needed in their jurisdiction <strong>for</strong><br />
effective decisionmaking; and have a basic checklist<br />
<strong>for</strong> time-phased actions.<br />
Selection Criteria: The target audience should be<br />
comprised of public and private sector decisionmakers<br />
and managers from coastal communities who prepare<br />
<strong>for</strong> and respond to hurricane hazards that threaten<br />
their community. A team made up of officials from<br />
police, fire, emergency management, public works,<br />
transportation, voluntary agencies, business, and the<br />
American Red Cross should attend.<br />
Prerequisites:<br />
Required: Completion of IS 324, Community Hurricane<br />
Preparedness.
