Exercise program manager/management<br />

This 2½-day course provides knowledge, skills, and<br />
job aids to assist local, State, and Federal personnel<br />
in implementing their roles and responsibilities<br />
as exercise program managers. Work products<br />
developed during the course will be useful <strong>for</strong><br />
the participant to develop or upgrade his or her<br />
comprehensive exercise program.<br />
Selection Criteria: State, FEMA regional, other Federal<br />
agency staff, and local emergency management/<br />
emergency services staff who have the responsibility to<br />
initiate and/or maintain their respective organization’s/<br />
jurisdiction’s overall exercise program.<br />
Prerequisites:<br />
Required: The participant must have substantial<br />
knowledge of emergency management operations<br />
and exercises within his/her organization and the<br />
assigned responsibility to initiate and/or upgrade<br />
the overall comprehensive exercise program.<br />
Exercise practicum <strong>for</strong> the master<br />
Exercise practitioner (g138)<br />
This activity consists of a series of self-directed<br />
and negotiated proficiency demonstrations of the<br />
knowledge, skills, and abilities acquired through<br />
the completion of <strong>courses</strong>. The proficiency<br />
demonstrations are structured in three major areas<br />
of concentration: exercise design and control,<br />
exercise evaluation, and exercise management/<br />
program management. Practicum sponsors will<br />
monitor the completion of 11 major proficiency<br />
demonstrations. In this manner, capabilities gained<br />
in classroom instruction can be applied to actual<br />
emergency management exercises as conducted by<br />
local, State, and Federal agencies.<br />

Selection Criteria: State, FEMA regional, other<br />
Federal agency staff, and local/Tribal emergency<br />
management/emergency services staff who have the<br />
responsibilities related to the design, development,<br />
per<strong>for</strong>mance, and evaluation of emergency<br />
management exercises. Applicants must declare their<br />
intention of completing the CEC offerings and earn<br />
the Master Exercise Practitioner title.<br />
public In<strong>for</strong>mation Officer (pIO)<br />
awareness training (g289)<br />
This awareness-level training is suitable <strong>for</strong> new<br />
PIOs, taken alone or be<strong>for</strong>e Basic Public In<strong>for</strong>mation<br />
Officer (PIO) (G290) training. A secondary audience<br />
is elected or other officials who want an overview of<br />
emergency public in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />
Selection Criteria: The primary audience <strong>for</strong> this<br />
training is individuals who have public in<strong>for</strong>mation<br />
responsibilities as their main job or as an auxiliary<br />
function at State, local, or Tribal levels of government.<br />
A secondary audience <strong>for</strong> the awareness component<br />
of this training includes individuals who would<br />
benefit from a general understanding of the<br />
emergency public in<strong>for</strong>mation function. This<br />
audience would include elected and other officials<br />
with responsibilities that would necessitate their<br />
working with PIOs or the news media during an<br />
emergency incident.<br />

(g290)<br />
This course is an updated, shortened, and revised<br />
version of the previous G290 course.The revised course<br />
emphasizes skills development, addresses the impact<br />
of technology on emergency public in<strong>for</strong>mation, and<br />
offers options that allow States to tailor the instructional<br />
methodology to suit their needs while consistently<br />
meeting the course learning objectives.<br />
