IEmc: Earthquake preparedness and<br />

response (E910)<br />

This IEMC addresses preparedness and response in<br />

emergency situations resulting from an earthquake.<br />

This exercise-based course is conducted <strong>for</strong><br />

participants from communities throughout the<br />

country. The IEMC places public officials and other<br />

key community leaders in a disaster simulation. The<br />

course methodologies of classroom instruction,<br />

planning sessions, and exercises allow <strong>for</strong> structured<br />

decision making in a learning environment that<br />

is realistic. A key outcome of this IEMC is that<br />

additional planning needs are identified, providing<br />

the opportunity to enhance overall preparedness. The<br />

exercise scenario <strong>for</strong> the IEMC: Earthquake Preparedness<br />

and Response focuses on response to an earthquake.<br />

Also, additional planning needs to prepare <strong>for</strong> an<br />

earthquake response are identified.<br />

Recommended: IS 100.a, Introduction to the Incident<br />

Command System (ICS), ICS-100; IS 200.a, Incident<br />

Command System (ICS) <strong>for</strong> Single Resources and Initial<br />

Action Incidents, ICS-200; and IS 700.a, National Incident<br />

<strong>Management</strong> System (NIMS), An Introduction.<br />

IEmc: Homeland security (E915)<br />

This IEMC focuses on preparing <strong>for</strong> and responding<br />

to the consequences of a terrorist act. Three scenarios<br />

are used <strong>for</strong> the functional exercises: ch<strong>emi</strong>cal,<br />

biological, and explosive. This exercise-based course<br />

is conducted <strong>for</strong> participants from communities<br />

throughout the country. The IEMC places public<br />

officials and other key community leaders in a disaster<br />

simulation. The course methodologies of classroom<br />

instruction, planning sessions, and exercises allow<br />

<strong>for</strong> structured decision making in a realistic learning<br />

environment. In the IEMC: Homeland Security, special<br />

attention is placed on the response among agencies<br />

when the disaster area also is a crime scene.<br />
