This is an exercise-based course <strong>for</strong> FEMA<br />

In<strong>for</strong>mation Technology (IT) Managers designed<br />

to test the efficacy of Joint Field Office (JFO)<br />

policies and procedures in the areas of in<strong>for</strong>mation<br />

technology and communications. Participants<br />

are taught the current operational standards and<br />

participate in tabletop exercises designed to simulate<br />

JFO conditions.<br />

Operations (E819)<br />

This course provides advanced installation,<br />

operations, and maintenance training as well<br />

as in-depth administrative training <strong>for</strong> systems<br />

operators to manage a G3 Phone Book Exchange<br />

(PBX) system.<br />

Selection Criteria: FEMA Communications/In<strong>for</strong>mation<br />

Technology (IT) and Operations disaster planners<br />

This course trains In<strong>for</strong>mation Technology System<br />

(ITS) staff in Enterprise Systems Administration.<br />

In<strong>for</strong>mation system (IfmIs) transactions<br />

(E337)<br />

This course trains participants in posting financial<br />

transactions to the Integrated Financial <strong>Management</strong><br />

In<strong>for</strong>mation System (IFMIS). Classes are conducted<br />

using the computer laboratory at the <strong>Emergency</strong><br />

<strong>Management</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>, National <strong>Emergency</strong> Training<br />

Center, in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Participants will be<br />

instructed by an expert system user about transactions<br />

<strong>for</strong> the following: disaster assistance, travel advances,<br />

receiving reports, invoices, expenditures, approvals,<br />

reports, and more. For each type of transaction,<br />

participants will be guided through an exercise, and<br />

then given a similar exercise to per<strong>for</strong>m on their<br />

own. Successful completion of the course is required<br />

be<strong>for</strong>e access to the system will be granted.<br />

Selection Criteria: Required <strong>for</strong> any FEMA financial<br />

staff member who needs to record transactions to<br />

the accounting system as part of his or her duties.<br />

communication and customer service<br />

(E526)<br />

This 4 day resident course teaches FEMA professional<br />

employees in grades GS 11/12/13 in the course<br />

elements of oral and written communications to<br />

meet and exceed the per<strong>for</strong>mance expectations in<br />

those areas. This course will instruct participants<br />

in appropriately, accurately, and succinctly relaying<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation. Participants will learn to independently<br />

and effectively communicate messages, even when<br />

their viewpoints are counter to the audience’s ideas<br />

or beliefs, in a respectful manner tailored to the<br />

audience. This course is a highly interactive course.
