Education conference (E392)<br />

The primary purpose of this Conference is to<br />

encourage and support inter-school dialogue on a<br />

variety of issues and problems related to hazard,<br />

disaster, and emergency management higher<br />

education, as well as to facilitate direct dialogue<br />

between the <strong>Emergency</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Higher<br />

Education Program and representatives of colleges and<br />

universities with emergency management programs.<br />

A secondary purpose of the Conference is to provide<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation to the faculty and administrators of<br />

emergency management collegiate programs which<br />

could be used in the development of new emergency<br />

management college <strong>courses</strong> and programs or in<br />

the modification of existing <strong>courses</strong>—akin to an<br />

“educate the educator” posture.<br />

Selection Criteria: Faculty and administrators<br />

with colleges and universities which (1) have<br />

a hazard, disaster, or emergency management<br />

acad<strong>emi</strong>c program in place, (2) are investigating<br />

or developing a hazard, disaster, or emergency<br />

management acad<strong>emi</strong>c program, or (3) FEMA is<br />

seeking to interest in developing such a program.<br />

In addition, a small number of participants are<br />

FEMA <strong>Emergency</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Higher Education<br />

Program materials developers and representatives<br />

of stakeholder organizations.<br />

Executive <strong>Emergency</strong> management<br />

symposium (E450)<br />

This course is a 4-day symposium <strong>for</strong> emergency<br />

management professionals at the executive level<br />

only. It is the first of several classes developed by<br />

the <strong>Emergency</strong> <strong>Management</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> as part of a<br />

competitive curriculum, the Executive <strong>Emergency</strong><br />

<strong>Management</strong> Officer Program.<br />

The course will consist of presentations and<br />

discussions on the latest developments and issues<br />

impacting emergency management. Course topic<br />

areas may include items such as: Leadership,<br />

Demographic and Societal Interests, Collaboration and<br />

Communication, Resource <strong>Management</strong>, Strategic<br />

Planning and Implementation, and Evaluation and<br />

Sustainable programs.
