Training <strong>of</strong> scientists <strong>and</strong> research technicians<br />

Two one-month training courses on “Chickpea Breeding <strong>and</strong> Seed Production” were organized at<br />

ICRISAT-Patancheru. The first course was organized during Jan-Feb 2008 <strong>and</strong> the second course during<br />

Jan-Feb 2009. Twelve researchers (9 men + 3 women) from the NARS <strong>of</strong> Ethiopia, Tanzania <strong>and</strong> Kenya<br />

participated (Table 16). The topics covered included conventional <strong>and</strong> biotechnological (genomic <strong>and</strong><br />

transgenic) approaches <strong>of</strong> chickpea improvement <strong>and</strong> improved practices for chickpea cultivation<br />

<strong>and</strong> seed production. The participants also had opportunity to visit other organizations in Hyderabad<br />

working on seed-related research, seed production, <strong>and</strong> seed quality testing.<br />
