but it mobilizes along the outer surface which
causes the foundation to reach the failure
condition. In this paper, a macro-element model
is described for the behaviour of seismic
foundation of block walls without backfills. The
proposed analyses formulate the wall-foundation
interaction model for cohesionless soils as
macro-element problems and then explore
dynamic response using a numerical time
integration method. The paper includes three
substantial developments: 1) representing the
seismic response of rigid blocks to earthquake
motions; 2) nonlinear interaction between the
underlying soil and the foundation by using the
criteria of cyclic plastic theory; and 3)
implementation of numerical modelling to
represent the seismic foundation of the gravity
wall subjected to combined loads. The spectral
acceleration will also be proposed here by
varying the natural frequency. The response of
both elastic-plastic and elastic material models
will be discussed and compared in order to
design the foundation resisted effectively
earthquake motions.
IC-195 IMPROVEMENT OF CATCHMENTS
SCALE SYSTEM MODEL FOR ISHIKARI
RIVER
Sanit Wongsa, Yasuyuki Shimizu
The 4 th IAHR Symposium on River, Coastal and
Estuarine Morphodynamics (RCEM 2005),
October 4-7, 2005, The University of Illinois,
Urbana, Illinois, USA., pp. 1099-1106
Risk assessment and water resources
management are required to get a reliable
estimation not only the sub-catchments scale
during the rainfall events, but also the
catchments scale with a few and/or no rain
gauge station. A simple 1-dimensional model
considering slope runoff and soil erosion,
channel flow with sediment transport, floodplain
sediment deposition and riverbank erosion is
presented to assist in predicting the
consequences of extension length and varied
slope of channel, and land-use change. The
extreme flood two events of Ishikari River,
Japan were used to calibrate and validate the
proposed numerical model. The ε and R 2 have
been used as the main criteria to judge whether
the data fitted between measured and simulated.
It was found that these two values for calibration
period were greater than 0.9, indicating well fit
between measured data and this proposed model.
143
The simulated sediment loads were also
comparable well with measured data. For the
suspended load and bedload, they were
increased to 10.0 % and 2.0 % judged by
considering flood-plain sediment deposition and
riverbank erosion. In addition, the proposed
model was exploited to simulate different
scenarios of land-use change, and artificial
canalized problems. The results indicate that
land-use change has no significant effect on
flood peak in Ishikari River catchments. The
decreasing/increasing of land cover coefficients
flood peak changed between ±1.0 %. However,
the eroded soil from hillslope was increased 5.0
- 8.0 % when land cover coefficients were
decreased. In contrast, artificial canalized has a
significant impact on regional flood, but no
significant effect on sediment yield of the study
catchments. The magnitudes of the flood peak
and sediment yields decreased.
The quality management composes of
many elements. The application of quality
manage can be used in various parts of
organizations. The current practices of quality
management also extend the application to
service industry and gain the same level of
benefits. The objective of the research is to study
the characteristics of quality management and
their application in manufacturing service
comparing to healthcare service. The study focus
electrical and electronics firms represent
manufacturing industry in Thailand. The result
from Healthcare organization represents the
service industry. The manufacturing industry
apply quality manage mostly in area of process
control, data analysis. On the other hand, the
service industry is found to employ quality
management in area of policy and planning,
quality management, human development,
training, and team working.
