ought to know a little more of the doctrine of
the scriptures, before he condemn the opinions
of Protestants. These framers were ignorant
of any precept of rehgion,
which enjoined them
to follow the directions of the Church implicitly.
But they had somewhere read, " To the
" law and to the testimony ; if they speak not
" according to this word, it is because there is

no light in them ;" and therefore they judged
it the safest course, to try evtry doctrine by the
