Had the R. taken an unprejudised view of the
state of the Church of Rome, he would not have
defended her oral traditions so keenly. They
have been foisted into religion, merely to support
a system of principles repugnant to both
scripture and reason. A view of ecclesiastical
history would have also shewn him, that the
Fathers, the canon-law, and even the most judicious
divines among Papists, have rested the
faith of the Church upon scripture,
