Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall<br />

<strong>and</strong> whatsoever ye shall loose on earth, shall<br />

be loosed in heaven *.'' Re was indeed aware<br />

of this little objection, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>refore he is willing<br />

to give <strong>the</strong>m a power to open <strong>and</strong> shut in<br />

subordination to Peter. Bat he must prove his<br />

premisses, before we admit his conclusion ; as<br />

w^e have not yet granted him, that Peter was<br />

chief pastor. He might as well say, If you will<br />

allow that Peter was <strong>the</strong> head of <strong>the</strong> church, I<br />

will prove his supremacy.<br />

As he is apt upon occasions to complain of<br />

<strong>the</strong> obscurity of <strong>the</strong> <strong>scripture</strong>s,<br />

view his st<strong>and</strong>ard of orthodoxy,<br />

<strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>rs, entertained<br />

of <strong>the</strong>se words of Christ.<br />
