But finding his cause very warmly<br />

against <strong>the</strong>m, <strong>and</strong> to restore <strong>the</strong>ir credit, <strong>the</strong>y<br />

repaired to Rome, <strong>and</strong> repeated <strong>the</strong>ir recantation.<br />

In all this, however, <strong>the</strong>re was no acknowledgement<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Pope's supremacy ; for<br />

<strong>the</strong>y had been restored <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council, previous<br />

to this journey. It is evident also, that <strong>the</strong>y<br />

were not sent <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong> Council ; for Hosius, bishop
