John's account of her, in <strong>the</strong> book of Revelation.<br />

1 HE church of Rome has v/ith great propriety<br />

supposed, that a body without a head mu^t<br />

make a very awkward appearance. To give<br />

him a vicegerent of a corresponding kind..<br />

to show from both <strong>scripture</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Fa<strong>the</strong>rs, that <strong>the</strong> apostle Peter w^as <strong>the</strong> first ia<br />

office. " Peter," says <strong>the</strong> R., " received from<br />

" Clirist an authoritative pow^r over <strong>the</strong> whole<br />

" visible church ;" And this doctrine, he far<strong>the</strong>r
