But, granting that an implicit submission is<br />

due to <strong>the</strong> ministers of C hrist, I will shew <strong>the</strong><br />

R., in a very few words, that <strong>the</strong> Church of<br />

Rome has no right to claim it. In iUustrating<br />

this topic, he has <strong>the</strong> fjllowing observations :<br />

" error <strong>and</strong> doctrines of devils^ speaking lies ii<br />

hypocrisy^ <strong>and</strong> having <strong>the</strong>ir consciences scar-<br />

^^t«" But why did he not produce <strong>the</strong> following<br />

words of this apostle The R.'s gr<strong>and</strong><br />

design is<br />

to detect <strong>the</strong> insidious artifices of innovators<br />

<strong>and</strong> pretended reformers ; <strong>and</strong> he <strong>the</strong>re<br />

specifies <strong>the</strong> marks <strong>by</strong> which <strong>the</strong>y may be known.<br />

They are persons, this apostle says, who " fci-<br />

bid to marry, <strong>and</strong> comm<strong>and</strong> to abstain from<br />

*'<br />

meats, which God has created to be received<br />

*'<br />

with thanksgiving of <strong>the</strong>m who beheve <strong>and</strong><br />

" know <strong>the</strong> truth. For every creature of God<br />

" is good, <strong>and</strong> nothing to be refused, if it be<br />

" received with thanksgiving |." Let <strong>the</strong> R.,<br />
