The R. ought to have known, that the
Church of Rome is far from being infallibly
certain whether fhese words should be applied
to the Church or to Timothy. By consulting
the Fathers, according to whom, he and his
brethren have sworn to explain the scriptures,
he will find some referring them to the one, and
