comprehension of reason ; but <strong>the</strong> Romish<br />

Church has <strong>the</strong> merit of discovering, that <strong>the</strong>se<br />

Before proceeding to an examination of <strong>the</strong><br />

R.'s sentiments, it may be proper to observe,<br />

that <strong>the</strong> dispute between Protestants <strong>and</strong> Papists<br />

is not, whe<strong>the</strong>r Christ be absent or present in<br />

<strong>the</strong> ordinance of <strong>the</strong> Supper. We Protestarits<br />

have always acknowledged his presence in <strong>the</strong><br />

cucharist, though we have not been able to believe<br />

that <strong>the</strong> eucharist is Christ. We are persuaded,<br />

that, like <strong>the</strong> first communicants at <strong>the</strong><br />

Lord's table, all succeeding disciples, believing<br />

<strong>the</strong> promises of <strong>the</strong> gospel, enjoy intercourse<br />

with him, <strong>and</strong> partake of his beneficence in this<br />

ordinance * " The cup of blessing wiiich we<br />

" bless, is it not <strong>the</strong> communion of <strong>the</strong> blood of<br />
