On <strong>the</strong> contrary, <strong>the</strong> Council of Constance<br />

" constituted <strong>the</strong> General Council, <strong>and</strong> repre-<br />

The R. appears to have embraced an opinicndifferent<br />

from both. According to his fust position,<br />

he maintains <strong>the</strong> supremacy of <strong>the</strong> Pope<br />

but he does not concede to him so nuich<br />

power<br />

as some who have preceded him, in dtfming this<br />
