But, granting that all <strong>the</strong> opinions <strong>and</strong> prayers<br />

produced amount to no more than a solicitation<br />

for <strong>the</strong> prayers of saints <strong>and</strong> ingels,<br />

even that is<br />

more than religion permits. In all <strong>the</strong> institutions<br />

of God, <strong>the</strong>re is no precept for such an<br />

invocation ; <strong>and</strong> in <strong>the</strong> vast variety of prayers<br />

with which <strong>scripture</strong> abounds,, <strong>the</strong>re is no example.<br />

On <strong>the</strong> contrary, we are expressly enjoined<br />
